Change
It has rightly been said that "the only thing in the world that never changes is the fact that things always change." Before leaving my very stable and very predictable future with my old job, I was fairly risk averse and enjoyed knowing where I was going to be and what I was going to be doing with a fair amount of certainty at any point in the future. I had such a quick start that I reached the point of predictability fairly quick. I realized that the idea of growing my world 5% or even 10% each year wasn't dynamic enough for me. I got restless. The part I loved was the fast start and learning the system. The part I didn't was the very established and very local routine it led to.
Then comes change. I honestly couldn't tell you what I'll be doing a month from today. I know I will be working, I will be aiming at some big goals, and I will be excited about what has happened in the past month, and honestly, that is about all that I know. That is uncomfortable. That means that all of the little things that I am working on they all have the chance to be the big thing that I am working on exclusively on then, but I don't know which little thing is going to become that big thing.
"There is no growth in the comfort zone, there is no comfort in the growth zone." My college roommate Erik Korem is the Strength Coach for the Mississippi State football team. He has had an incredible impact across the nation at the schools that he has coached at since leaving Texas A&M. The quick response and results that he receives from his athletes has everything to do with change. Erik wrote a work out program for me and in one week I lost 5lbs. I went back and did it the next week and lost another 3lbs. Before I started following his program, I would go to the gym and do exactly the same thing three times a week and never saw results. Check out what Erik had to say about change and your world on his blog today www.ErikKorem.com
Doing the same thing over and over again is a great way to stay the same and right where you are, never improving. In the gym and in life, it is only by infusing change into your world that you will grow and become all the you have the chance to be.
