The Journey - Louis Vuitton
Annie and I went to see Prince Caspian last week before she departed for her tour of Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. The movie was alright but seemed eternally long without a story line that really drew me in to give a care about the apparent drama that was going on between the characters. The first Narnia is so much better. We went to the Regent Theater in Highland Park Village after exploring the culinary excellence of the Who's Who Burger across the parking lot. (I would not have thought a Cranberry Cheese Turkey burger would have been as satisfying as it was.) As we got settled and the previews began to roll, one caught my eye and drew me in. I pulled out my blackberry and email myself a quote from the commercial: "Does the person create the journey or does the journey create the person?" I thought to myself that that is a question I have been asking for quite some time now on a number of different issues, is it nurture or nature that makes us the way we are? How much effect does one have on the other and what is the balance? Deep thoughts for a movie preview huh? So today, five days later, I was cleaning out my gmail account and came across the email reminder from myself and googled the quote, having forgotten what it was advertising. In doing so, I cam across the commercial I had seen in the theater...
I didn't remember or expect it to be a Louis Vuitton commercial that had prompted such thoughtful pondering last week. And then I remembered a couple of other print ads that I had seen in the New York Times Sunday Travel section. Neither Keith Richards nor Mikhail Gorbachev would inspire me to buy a Louis Vuitton bag per se, but the way in which they are caught in very real, and frankly, very familiar situations to one that I have found myself in recently as I have traveled, the appeal is there.
And then you go throw in the fact that they got me thinking enough to actually write about it, man, maybe I will buy a LV bag sooner rather than later.
